First edition thus compiled, first printing hardcover copy of The Dream Songs by John Berryman (Farrar, Straus & Giroux, 1969). Rare first printing of this edition collecting 385 poems consisting of the Pulitzer Prize winning Dream Songs and His Toy, His Dream, His Rest. Considered to be Berryman’s masterpiece, like the Cantos of Ezra Pound. Jacket now protected in new (removable) archival sleeve but with some rubbing/scuffing to faces and shelf wear around the edges - including chipping, creasing and small tears. Partially removed handwriting to front liner flap of dj. Boards are straight and clean but with corners slightly bumped. Binding material faintly visible in a few gutters though spine is fairly straight and binding remains strong on the whole. Pages clean and unmarked though tanned. See photos for condition.
