The Corpus Hermeticum presents the foundational texts of the Hermetic tradition. Comprising fifteen tractates, along with The Perfect Sermon (or Asclepius), these writings were composed by unknown authors in Egypt before the end of the 3rd century CE.
The works were attributed to the mythic figure Hermes Trismegistus, a Hellenistic synthesis of the Greek god Hermes and the Egyptian god Thoth. Originally part of a far larger corpus of Hermetic literature, the tractates now known as the Corpus Hermeticum were collected into a single volume during Byzantine times.
