Celtic Rooster Pin Fierce Goddess Brighid Ireland Vintage Chicken BeadRage
Fierce Celtic rooster pin - had this one for awhile and can't find another like it to date it. Antiqued brass finish - excellent detail measuring 1 and 1/2" wide. Regular roll over clasp. Only one I have - never worn.

Some interesting mythology on this piece. The Celts believed that roosters were messengers from the underworld and that their crowing represented resurrection and protection from evil spirits. The Celts also included roosters in the Imbolc festival to honor the goddess Brighid, which involved cockfighting and the ritual sacrifice of a rooster. However, the Celtic and Nordic cultures have charged the rooster with a different connection: that of the underworld. In these mythologies, the rooster spirit guide is described as a messenger of the dead, screeching out warnings of danger.
