Art Deco Plate composed of Uranium Glass Manufacturer: Bagley Date: 1930's Design: Rose & Leaf Style: Art Deco Markings: Made in England Composition: Uranium Glass An oval shaped plate with Rose & Leaf design, frosted glass & scalloped edges. Uranium glass is a type of glass that contains small amounts of uranium, giving it a distinctive yellow or green hue and making it glow brightly under ultraviolet (UV) light. Popular from the late 19th to the early 20th cen-tury, this "Vaseline glass" was used for decorative pieces and tableware but fell out of widespread use during the Cold War due to uranium scarcity. While radioactive, the tiny amounts used in glassware are considered safe, with radiation levels comparable to that of a banana. Measurements: 26cm x 21cm (10.2" x 8.2") A beautiful art deco find! This plate does have a few scuff marks and a small surface chip (please see circled picture) ...but it is nearly 100 years old!! This plate should glow when UV light is shone upon it, I unfortunately don't have a light to test it out but would love to see its full effect! 💚 💚 💚 💚 💚
